It is common knowledge in environmental research that birds are “sentinel species”, often signaling change in ecosystems (local to global). The parrot family is one of the most rapidly declining groups of animals on the planet, yet Southern California is now home to at least 13 species of naturalized (non-invasive) wild parrots. Come learn what research on these local wild parrots is telling us about the health of our planet and how the future of wild parrot conservation for these and many other species could lie within our SoCal Parrots. This discussion will be led by Brooke Durham, who founded local nonprofit SoCal Parrot after realizing a need for our wild parrots care and consideration in the wildlife community.
