Emergency Updates

Dear Friend of the Animals,

San Diego Humane Society continues to support pet families affected by the devastating rain and flooding throughout San Diego County. Here is an update on our efforts and how you can help during this time of crisis.

Shelter for Pets:
San Diego Humane Society has partnered with the American Red Cross to set up and operate a temporary shelter for pets at Lincoln High School (4777 Imperial Ave., San Diego, CA 92113). This shelter is staffed 24 hours a day and offers pet food and limited supplies, temporary shelter for displaced pets and additional resources.

Emergency Response and Rescue:
Our Humane Law Enforcement Dispatch has received numerous calls about animals affected by the flooding, including a coyote with his head stuck in a bucket who was found in a flooded field full of debris.

Our officers and Emergency Response Team have deployed to the Southcrest, Mountain View, Logan Heights and Shelltown neighborhoods to assist animals left behind during the flooding, as well as people and pets in need of support. So far, we have provided dozens of pet families with food and resources for assistance, and teams are back in the area today. We are also identifying other communities impacted by the flooding to provide further emergency response.

How You Can Help:

  • Become a safety net foster. Some of the families affected by the recent flooding will be displaced for months. Through our Safety Net Foster Program, we provide safe and loving foster homes for pets whose families are in crisis, until they are able to reunite. The more foster volunteers we have available, the more families we can support. Learn more and become a Safety Net Foster volunteer at sdhumane.org/foster.
