Yorkies Special Adoption Application

Rescued Yorkie Dogs from Hoarder Residence Are Available for Adoption

We are excited to share that more than 80 of the 123 dogs recently rescued from a hoarding situation in Poway will be available for adoption within the week. Because so many people like you have expressed interest in giving these Yorkie mix-breed dogs a second chance, we have made special arrangements for their adoption.

If you would like to adopt any of the Yorkies, please complete the application below by 12 p.m. (noon) on Saturday, Feb. 4.

All applications will be reviewed and, of those approved, adopters will be selected via lottery. Adopters will be contacted individually to schedule an appointment to complete the adoption. By doing this, we can ensure applicants have equal opportunity to adopt them, make the whole adoption process better for interested adopters, and most importantly, we can avoid overwhelming the dogs.

The dogs will be available to meet by invitation only.

Whenever you adopt a new pet, there are various factors to consider. For instance, some of these dogs will need socialization due to being isolated most of their lives. They may exhibit shy/fearful behaviors. Mostly, they will need training, patience and understanding to help them adapt to being a part of a family. Other considerations include:

  • Your adopted dog will automatically be considered a “Celebrity Adoption,” and you will be asked to bring your dog to events, media interviews, etc. for updates on how he is doing.
  • Many of these dogs may have some dental disease. We did oral surgery for the worst cases before adoption, but ultimately, you will need to seek treatment with your family vet.
  • For their health and wellbeing, Yorkies require grooming every 4-6 weeks.
  • We recommend for the first couple of weeks you keep these dogs away from all other animals in public places so they have time to adjust. Also, this will give you time to ensure the dogs have completed all their vaccinations.

Thank you for your interest and support of these animals. We dread seeing situations like hoarding, but we will always be ready to do what’s necessary to keep animals safe.

Normal Adoption Fees will apply, which includes spay/neuter, current vaccinations, permanent microchip identification, a certificate for a free veterinary exam, waived enrollment fee for medical insurance from TruPanion, and a license if residing in Escondido, San Marcos, Poway, Oceanside or Vista.
